Brow Lamination vs Brow Tinting: Which One Do You Actually Need?

Brow lamination and brow tinting are two of the most popular brow services, and clients often confuse them. They give very different results and solve different problems. Here is the honest comparison to help you choose what is actually right for you.

The Quick Answer
Brow lamination changes the shape of your brow hairs. Brow tinting changes the color. Lamination gives you polished, lifted, fuller looking brows. Tinting gives you darker, more defined brows. Many clients get both, but if you only want one, your answer depends on your main concern. View all our brow services on our service page.
What Brow Lamination Does
Brow lamination is a relaxing treatment for your brow hairs. The lift solution softens the hairs, the neutralizer locks them into a uniform shape, and the conditioning serum keeps them healthy.
The result:
Polished, brushed up brows that stay in place
Fuller looking shape from lifted hairs
Smoother appearance overall
Brows that look groomed without daily effort
Lasts 4 to 6 weeks.
What Brow Tinting Does
Brow tinting adds color to your brow hairs (cream tint) or to both the hairs and skin (hybrid tint). It enhances the natural shape and depth of your brows.
The result:
Darker, more defined brow color
More visible shape even without makeup
Fuller looking brows when paired with hybrid tint
Less reliance on brow pencils or powders
Cream tint lasts 2 to 4 weeks. Hybrid tint lasts 1 to 2 weeks on the skin and up to 4 weeks on the hair.
Which One Should You Choose?
Choose brow lamination if:
Your brow hairs are unruly or do not lay flat
You want fuller, more polished shape
You are tired of brushing your brows into place daily
Your brows look great when brushed but never stay that way
You want to skip your daily brow gel
Choose brow tinting if:
Your brow hair is light, faded, or fine
You want a more defined color without daily filling in
You want to skip your daily brow pencil or powder
You like your brow shape but want them to stand out more
You have sparse spots you want to disguise (hybrid tint)
Why Get Both?
Many clients get brow lamination with a tint added for the complete polished look. Cream tint is included with brow lamination at no extra charge. Hybrid tint can be added for a more filled in look.
This is the option for clients who want the most dramatic improvement in their brows. Polished shape from lamination and enhanced color from tint.
How Long Each Takes
Brow lamination is about 50 to 60 minutes (includes tint, mapping, waxing, and conditioning). Standalone tinting is much shorter. For the full lamination flow, read our Brow Lamination: Everything You Need to Know Before Your First Appointment post.
How Often to Rebook
Lamination: every 4 to 6 weeks. Tint alone: every 2 to 4 weeks (cream) or 1 to 4 weeks (hybrid). For more on the long term care of laminated brows, read our How to Care for Your Brows After Lamination post.
Cost Considerations
Standalone tinting is much more affordable than lamination, but lamination includes a tint already. If you want both, getting lamination with tint included is the best value. View our service pricing on our service page.
Are There Any Risks?
Both services are safe when done by a trained professional. For more on lamination safety specifically, read our The Truth About Brow Lamination and Whether It Damages Your Brows post.
