Lip Blush Healing Process: What to Expect Day by Day

The lip blush healing process is one of the most asked about parts of the service, and for good reason. Your lips go through a lot of changes in the first two weeks. Knowing what to expect prevents panic and helps you protect your beautiful results. Here is your day by day guide.

Why the Healing Process Matters
How you care for your lips during healing directly affects your final result. The first two weeks are when your skin is most delicate and most likely to be affected by your habits. Follow the timeline and your color will heal beautifully. View all our permanent makeup services on our service page.
Day 1: The Day Of
Your lips will look bold and bright. Color appears more intense than your final result will be. Some swelling is normal and may last 24 to 48 hours.
What to do:
Gently blot with a clean tissue if needed
Apply provided aftercare balm sparingly
Avoid food and water touching the lips for the first hour
Sleep on your back if possible
Take any swelling reducing measures (ice in a clean cloth)
Days 2 to 4: The Dark Phase
Your lips may look even darker or more intense as the lymphatic fluid dries on the surface. This is normal scabbing. The color you see is not your final color.
What to do:
Continue gentle blotting
Apply balm in thin layers throughout the day
Avoid lip pressure (no straws, kissing, hot foods)
Skip spicy or acidic foods
Do not pick or pull at scabs
Days 5 to 7: The Peeling Phase
This is often called the panic phase. Scabs begin to flake off in small pieces, and color underneath looks very light or patchy. Some clients worry the color did not take. This is normal.
What to do:
Keep balming
Do not pick at peeling skin
Let pieces fall off naturally
Stay hydrated
Trust the process
Days 8 to 14: The Coming Back Phase
Color slowly returns as deeper layers of skin heal and reveal the pigment that settled in. Your lips will look more even and soft.
What to do:
Continue gentle care
Resume normal eating and drinking
Keep applying balm for moisture
Avoid harsh lip products
Use SPF lip balm if going outside
Days 14 to 28: Final Healing
Your color continues to settle and even out. By day 28, you see your true final result, which is typically 40 to 70% softer than your day of color.
What to do:
Resume your normal lip routine
Use SPF lip balm daily
Note any areas that might need touch up attention
Schedule your touch up if you have not already
The 6 to 8 Week Touch Up
Your initial appointment includes a touch up 6 to 8 weeks later. This is when we fine tune the color, fill in any spots that may have faded, and make sure your lips look exactly the way you want. For more on what to expect, read our What Is Lip Blush? A Complete Guide to Soft, Natural Color post.
What to Avoid During Healing
For the full 2 weeks:

Saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga
Direct sun on the lips
Spicy or acidic foods
Hot drinks (use a straw once approved)
Smoking
Heavy workouts
Kissing
Lip exfoliation
Lipstick or lip products other than aftercare balm
