What is lip blush?

Lip blush is a form of permanent makeup that gently enhances the natural color of your lips. We use small needles to deposit pigment into the lip, creating a soft, tinted look that mimics the appearance of a wash of lipstick. The result is fuller looking, more defined, naturally colored lips that you wake up with every day. View all our permanent makeup services on our service page.

What It Is Not

Lip blush is not the same as:

Lipstick tattoo. Older techniques used heavier pigment for a bolder, lipstick like look. Lip blush is much softer and more natural.

Lip liner tattoo. Lip liner tattoos only outline the lip. Lip blush fills in the entire lip area with soft color.

Lip fillers. Fillers add volume. Lip blush adds color and the illusion of more shape.

Who Lip Blush Is For

Lip blush is great if you:

  1. Want fuller looking lips without filler

  2. Have light or fading natural lip color

  3. Wake up wishing your lips looked more defined

  4. Are tired of reapplying lipstick all day

  5. Want to enhance your features in a subtle, natural way

  6. Have uneven lip color you want to balance

Who Lip Blush Is Not For

Lip blush may not be the right choice if you:

  1. Are pregnant or nursing (wait until after)

  2. Are taking blood thinners

  3. Have active cold sores or fever blisters

  4. Have certain skin conditions on or around the lips

  5. Recently had lip fillers (wait at least 4 weeks)

If you have concerns, a consultation helps us decide if lip blush is right for you.

The Process

A full lip blush appointment is about 90 minutes. Here is what happens:

1. Consultation. We discuss your goals, choose your color, and map your shape.

2. Numbing. Topical numbing is applied to keep you comfortable throughout the appointment.

3. Color application. We gently deposit pigment into the lip in layers. We start light and build up to your desired result.

4. Aftercare review. We send you home with detailed aftercare instructions and the products you need.

Your initial appointment includes a touch up 6 to 8 weeks later.

The Color Journey

Your lip blush color will change over the healing process. Knowing this in advance prevents panic.

Day of. Color looks bold and bright. About 50% darker than your final result.

Days 2 to 5. Color darkens and may look more intense. This is normal scabbing.

Days 5 to 10. Scabs flake off. Color may look very light or patchy. This is the panic phase.

Days 10 to 30. Color comes back as the lips heal. Final result emerges.

Final color drops 40 to 70% from day of. Soft, natural, beautiful.

How Long Does Lip Blush Last?

Lip blush typically lasts 2 to 5 years, depending on:

  1. Your skin type (oily skin fades faster)

  2. Sun exposure (UV breaks down pigment)

  3. Lifestyle (smoking, regular exfoliation)

  4. Your immune system

  5. Whether you do yearly touch ups

We recommend a yearly touch up to keep color looking fresh.

Lip Blush With Lip Neutralization

For clients with cool toned or darker pigmented lips, we offer Lip Blush with Lip Neutralization. This is a slightly longer process that first neutralizes the existing pigment so the new color reads more accurately. It includes two touch ups instead of one because the process is more involved.

Is It Painful?

Most clients describe it as more uncomfortable than painful. With topical numbing applied throughout, the sensation is manageable. Some areas of the lip are more sensitive than others, and we work in sections to keep you comfortable.
